Blackberry season is here. Lots of people out picking in the hedgerows.

Blackberry & rye crumble with fromage frais:

I bet it tasted as good as it looked ;)

Handle's peach ice cream. It used to have discrete pieces of peach but not now. Still good flavor but not as good as last year. Disappointing.

Cincinnati Chili Mac, one of my favorite dishes. You can tell it's chili, it's got beans in it.
I took this pic as an afterthought, obviously I gave no thought to presentation. Under the mound of Parmesan cheese is a scattering of chopped onion, a small mound of kidney beans, the chili mac sauce (which has no beans) and of course, the linguini. And, of course, a whole bunch of spices like cumin, cloves, chili powder, pumpkin pie spice, cardamon, cinnamon, chocolate, etc.
Delicious!
Oops, forgot. Aleppo chilies.

Just finished up homemade fettuccine with Sicilian EVOO, fresh garlic and crushed red pepper.  Soooooo yummy!

Yes I know, I know, I didn't use Aleppo Chili - but its because I don't have any  :'(  I WILL, however, have some just in time to spice up my NY pies on Friday

Lasagna with homemade chicken thigh sausage in the sauce and porcini mushrooms in the ricotta mix.  We'll see how the guys like this mix.  Oh, and also a green salad and today's bread.

I have a new favorite, pork scallapini which I layer with cheese, salami and cappicola, roll it up and bread it, pan fry in a little oil and finish in the oven for 10 minutes. Delicious, simple and versatile.

A fancy 5-way Cincin chili. Nice!  Never tried it with parmesan before. Interesting.
I'm ambivalent about the beans though. Could take em or leave em tbh.

The recipe calls for American cheese, I prefer the parmesan though. You can do it w/o the beans, you know, a 4-way. I'll bet you've done a 4-way, you dog!  :-D

Fresh spinach fettuccine that was purchased at the 9th St. Italian Market with Tom Lehmann's secret Garlic Alfredo sauce with basil.

Tom's secret garlic sauce on the below link.

Tom secret Alfredo sauce is great to use as a sauce on pizza too 8)

It's not my recipe, my wife found it years ago in, of all things, an issue of BH&G magazine. Scoff if you will, and I did, until she made it, but it's delicious.
Skyline Chili, the big dog of Cincinnati Chili made a move to Toledo, years ago and only lasted a year or so before they left town, done in by better tasting and cheaper local versions of Cin. Chili. The BH&G version beats all of them. The only change I've made is to add Aleppo.
I do have my own version of Chili based on a now defunct local restaurant's chili that uses mushrooms (I try not to be narrow minded about what goes into chili) and have altered to so I can make it in a pressure cooker with 18 minutes of cooking. I've not made it since getting on the Aleppo kick so I will be adding that ingredient next time I make it.

Norma,

I have never seen a no butter alfredo before.  How would you rate it out of 10?

Nate,

I have not tried to make a lot of butter Alfredo sauces before myself, but have tried different ones in restaurants.  I would rate Tom Lehmann's recipe up there high in my opinion.  It is easy to make too.

An altogether non-summer meal tonight: claypot rice

toppings:
napa cabbage with dried shrimp and garlic
(roasted previously) chicken leg
rehydrated shitake mushrooms
two types of chinese sausage (pork, duck liver)

Rice was cooked until properly crispy on the bottom

condiments
sweet soy and (homemade) xo-style sauce

and yes, my claypot is broken (handle came off a while ago)
Accompanying beverage: my last bottle of Kernel Chinook IPA

Grilled chicken teriyaki sandwiches on homemade bread.  Kind of boring, but it's warm here and I don't feel like turning on the oven.

Baked potato with some homemade cheddar cheese sauce, diced ham and a couple racing stripes of meat sauce made with pork sausage. Underneath all those toppings was a healthy layer of butter.

Thanks Chicago Bob! Man, it's been a while since I've had a good baked potato, so I went ahead and made some last night. Great dinner, my wife and two guests enjoyed them.  I had the remaining baked potato for lunch today. Yup, I'm all spudded out for now ;D

Had to use some eggs while they were still good so, a delicious egg salad sandwich, Ballreich's  potato chips, and Bush's baked beans with 1 T oyster sauce and 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce added to improve their flavor.
No pic, everyone knows what this stuff looks like.  :)
