How much do DOP San Marzano tomatoes cost?
« on: November 08, 2012, 08:29:55 AM »
I don't usually use them but I saw these Gia Russa DOP San Marzano tomatoes at a local grocery store so I figured that I'd give them a try. They were $2.99 for a 28 oz. can. This seemed pretty reasonable to me but I have never bought them before. Is this a good price?

They tasted great.

Around here, I'd say the typical cost is $4.49-$4.99 for a 28oz can. There is one place that generally has them for $2.49.

That's an excellent price in my area.  28 oz cans go for $4.50-$5.00.  I need to buy them in the large #10 can's at a warehouse district to keep my costs down.

Too much.

Too much volume or too much price. They go for $2.99 at amazon. What do you pay?

So I guess $2.99 is a decent price. I always thought they were very expensive because the only other time that I saw them retail in my area, they were going for $6.99.

I've mentioned it a few times but this seems like a fitting time to mention it again.  My local Costco has carried DOP San Marzano Tomatoes for about a year now.  They are from Flora foods, they come in a 3 28 oz can pack and last time I was in the price was down to $6 for the 3 cans.  I've been very happy with them.

I really like Flora as well, only the ones I get are $3.69.

Can you post the Costco Item Number? I would like to check with my local Costco and see if they can get it in. Thanks.

landras,

What Costco location did you purchase the San Marzano tomatoes from? It appears that they are only in the CA and TX locations at this time. Thanks
