Sourdough starter from San diego or Dallas ?

Friend of mine is on a business trip to San Diego and Dallas right now and i was thinking that he might bring or send me a good starter for pizza

Do you know any store where he could find a one easily ? Also are good Caputo 00 pizza flours available every store ?

Also where can i look how much does it cost to send a package to Finland, thanks for the help


You could also give me a recommendation for a great pizza places on San Diego or Dallas which i could pass forward to my friend

I have tested to make it on my own, but i never know is it good or bad compared to some other starter.

I would suggest, as Qarl noted, purchasing some established dry starter from sourdo.com to compare to your own. They have a wide selection to choose from. Besides, Dallas is not known for it's starter flora .

Central Market in Dallas probably carries the 1kg Caputo "Chef's Flour Tipo 00" red bag. They do in Houston. It is the same flour as the 25kg Caputo Pizzeria. My guess is that is the only place in Dallas to find it. Caputo flour is not widely available in Texas. There is a foodservice distributor in Dallas that stocks the 25kg bag of Caputo Pizzeria, but I can't imagine how expensive it would be to ship to Finland. You Can probably find out at UPS.com of FexEx.com.

Maybe Omid at Pizzeria Bruno would be a good source? If he was willing, you could even take some of his dough and dry it out, then have your friend send back to you?

I only wish that when I was living in San Diego that Pizzeria Bruno existed, but that was 13 years ago. The dark ages......

Maybe a local bakery/grocery/food warehouse could help you out. Just thinking the shipping from Europe to the States and back to Europe again. There must be someone fairly locally that could help you out.
