Cento Certified went from $3.79 to $5.29 a can in my local supermarket. Anyone else see this huge price increase? I am not happy, but it cements my decision to just use Cento Italian.

I had not noticed an increase, but I'll look tomorrow when I go to the store. It's been a long tiome since I used anything besides the Cento Italian on a NP pie.

Prices on those things are all over the place in my area, I'll snoop around next time I shop. I've found a place that I shop at often that carries Stanislaus Alta Cucina's in the #10 cans for around $6. Can't beat that price or those tomatoes.

At the local high end supermarket near me, the Cento Certified San Marzano tomatoes are on sale at the moment, at $4.29, down from $4.99. The Cento Italan Style tomatoes are also on sale, at $2.19, down from $2.59.

Hannaford Market, Voorheesville, NY......Cento certified San Marzano's, $3.39 a can. Cento Italian tomatoes, 35 oz can, $2.19 a can.

HUGE price increase at Publix here in Orlando. Was previously $2.89 per can. It's now $2.99 per can. Woooooo $0.10 per can. LOL

I stocked up and bought 8 cans!

That is seriously unbelievable, that a can which costs $5.29 here in Boston is $2.99 in Orlando.

This is virtually always the case in retail grocery. In some very limited cases (and a lot of stuff happening on the back side), the manufacturer can get away with printing the price on the package, but it is far from common.

I stopped buying Cento Certified after i tried Wegmans certified SM brand. Its way better and at the time was $2.99 a can. Not sure the price now because ive been using classico crushed @ $1.58 a can for practically everything that requires tomato sauce. And just add fresh roma tomatoes that i usually get between $0.49 - $0.99 cents/lb at local farmers markets.

Local Walmart has gone from $1.28 to $1.98 for Classico crushed in the last 2 months.

It's typically FOB and bracketed pricing based on volume. If you zone price, you probably limit yourself to being a regional competitor and piss off the large customers. A company like Cento will have product staged at various warehouses around the country, and freight can move on rail so inexpensively, it doesn't matter where it lands in port. Even if it cost an extra $1000 when it gets on a truck, that doesn't add up to a whole lot when you amortize it across 36,000lbs of cans. You can always take it out of the marketing funds built into the price if you have to.
