I have enjoyed this thread and now know how to catch mice.     Thanks for posting about the mouse that ate your pineapple.  I would have never know how to catch mice so quickly before this thread.

I wanted to let you all know I must have some mice now in my place, because I saw a few mice droppings in the one bathroom.  Were there is one mouse there is another, so I used your idea and built a 5 gallon mouse trap this morning.  Will wait and see what happens.

Smear a couple little tempting swipes of peanut butter up the board to get them started.....can't wait!!

Me too, we have a mouse problem at our river cottage and I'm always using those spring-loaded traps (which I hate). I'm very curious to see how this contraption works!

Norma, your trap might be more effective if you moved the can closer to the edge of the bucket and have the plank going up the side where the can is.  That way they fall in trying to get into the can.

I will post pictures if I get any takers.  I did grease the bottom and half way up the sides with some corn oil, so those buggers might not be able to get out if any are going to take the bite.     I will take any that get in there out to a field a couple of miles from where I live.

I have those Victor spring loaded mouse-traps, but I snapped my fingers a few times using them.  That is why I am trying this since Craig posted.

Norma, maybe I'm wrong but from the picture you posted.  If a mouse walks up your ramp, I'm not sure he can reach the can.  I think he would have an easier time reaching the can if you only used one ramp and position it closer to the can.  And perhaps slide the can closer to the side of the bucket where the ramp is.  In other words, bring the can and the ramp closer together to give the mice a little more motivation.  Maybe if they think they can reach it, they will try harder and thus fall in.  Sorry I was just trying to think like a mouse.

I did move the board over to where the wire coat hanger (cut) is, so the board lines up with the coat hanger wire.
