Where to buy yeast?

What website is the best for ordering fresh yeast?  I will need it mailed to me.

I do not recommend trying to mail fresh yeast. We are in Manhattan, Kansas and we have difficulties getting several cases of it to us each week from Kansas City. Instead, consider buying a supply of IDY instant dry yeast. Unopened it has a shelf life of a year or more and you should be able to get it from any restaurant supply. You might even be able to talk a local baker into putting in an order for a few extra pounds when they place their yeast order. If you want just small quantities, you local supermarket probably carries the small packets of IDY.

I have no desire to use cake yeast, but if I did I'd go to a small independent bake shop and ask to buy a small portion from them. Club stores like BJ's and Sam's sell yeast so cheap I can't fathom why some people buy it any other way. 2/1lb. bags go for less than $6. It's been literally years since I've seen fresh yeast in the grocery stores here in upstate NY.

There is a place on the Red Star Yeast website to put your zip code in to see if there is a store near where you live that carries Red Star Fresh Yeast.  This is the link.  http://www.redstaryeast.com/products/red-star%C2%AE/red-star%C2%AE-cake-fresh-yeast  I have used that link before to find fresh yeast near me and did find where to purchase Red Star Fresh Yeast near where I live, but I would call the supermarkets first to see if they really have the Red Star Fresh Yeast in stock.

Until fellow forum member (and neighbor!) Mmmph clued me in to the availability at the local Great Harvest bakery I had been getting it very reliably (and fresh!) from NY Bakers:

King Arthur flour website has a selection of yeast, but it may be pricey with shipping. I've seen SAF yeast in Whole Foods.

I get my yeast at GFS (Gordon Food Service).  It is basically a small warehouse club but without the membership.  They have the one pound bag of SAF Instant yeast for $3.00 I believe.
