« on: March 22, 2013, 07:45:59 PM »
This post contains random pictures of ovens, flour, tomatoes, cheeses....John Conklin, Larry Caraglio, Arturo, Stefano Ferrara, Giulio Adriani, Antonio Starita, Roberto Caporuscio, etc... I attended 3 days out of 4...  SENSORY OVERLOAD.  Feel free to ask questions or comment...there's so much to say, I just don't know where to begin. :)

Set #1:  Not sure who this man is. But I love him!  Mr. Antimo Caputo himself taking his picture. Caputo booth next to Marra Forni. GI Metals, checked out Bel Gioiso for curds - making some mozzarella real soon!! Fell in love with Giadiniera and hot pepper while in Chicago, I couldn't resist tasting and taking pictures. Robert Irvine seems popular. I don't watch Cable TV, so I was not impressed. Should I be?

Set #2 (above):  Jonathan Goldsmith, owner/pizza maker of Spacca Napoli, Ravenswood, IL..gave me a big smile when he realized it was me.  Otherwise, he looks exhausted.  He worked very hard in the Antimo Caputo booth and judging pizza competitions.  Hope these set of pictures give you a sense of the energy and chaos during the competition events.  I was able to capture Smokevitch's reaction when he heard his name over the speaker as he won first place in his division.

Sorry guys, I couldn't resist taking a picture of Mr. Pizza Head. Revention head wins Most Original in advertising.  Great duo playing Old Time Italian tunes. More pictures of the Marra Forni.  Giulio Adriani manning the ovens; Roberto called in sick, so it was a long day for Giulio!

Earlier Set of pictures: Stefano Ferrara ovens...picture of his son.  John and Larry hanging out by the Ferrara ovens.  John showing off his WFO pizza, LOL. John tasting more pizza from another vendor.  Looks like Larry just signed up for another oven?  ::) The young chap in the middle is the pizza maker at Sette Bello (Carmine), in Vegas.

More pictures... John showing off the rewards of his Nautilus regiment. I've fallen in love with Corti Olive Oil, rooted in Italy and grown in California; same owners of Stanislaus tomatoes. Jonathan Goldsmith of Spacca Napoli, IL -the poster boy for Caputo Flour; Larry, myself & Arturo waiting for a Neo pie to be served...by Giulio Adriani, using flour from the pink bag (?). Pizza was incredible!

Last set of pictures!  Jonathan (Spacca Napoli) helping Giulio (Forcella) cut cheese; Larry feeling thirsty and ready to rumble!; John testing Pamela's Gluten-Free flour; finally got to see Scott Weiner (Scott's Pizza Tour of NYC) who remained cloistered behind curtains, judging pizza competitions for most of the day.  He was quite excited to share his new collection of pizza boxes from Japan. Very strange ones.

Great stuff ,

That was me speaking with Jay Jerrier  and dino santonicol (sp) his main man at cane rosso  at the Stefano booth Larry was signing on for a new flour. But I  did catch him speaking long time with a few oven suppliers  ;) I will report on those when I get a chance there were 3 or 4 off brands by that I mean beside Caputo  that I thought were really great! Better than , yes better in my rookie opinion ,  even though the gas ovens were not doing  the pies justice . I will get the names from my cards and info ASAP .
Sharlene do your have a shot of that Marra forni shiny silver oven ?  I was 2 sided ! Very cool  would like members thoughts on that  fun few days for sure !
John
Ps great pictures Sharlene!  Thanks for posting and bringing back the great memories

even though the gas ovens were not doing  the pies justice

I have been skeptical of the gas ovens since the videos of them came out after the Expo last year and have been greeted with comments along the lines of "but look at the great pizza in the video." Thank you for vindicating my skepticism  ;D I'm not necessarily saying that the video was fraudulent, but I think the concept that a gas burner can pump out constant 60 second bakes all day long is a bit far-fetched.
