Freezing IDY?
« on: April 23, 2013, 05:53:17 PM »
I always buy the big jars of instant dry yeast because i dont' like the mess with the individual packs but i always end up throwing about 1/2 the jar away at the end. Question is can you freeze it? I would think if you froze it then the yeast would almost last indefinitely. Another idea, since i have a foodsaver type device on the way, would be to put the yeast in one of those vacuum canisters. I would think that would essentially do the same thing. Any thoughts?

Ncage,

Yes, IDY can be frozen. For further discussion and detail, see this post: Reply 9 at http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,22138.msg225023/topicseen.html#msg225023
