I've seasoned lots of cast iron skillets and pots. If it feels sticky you left too much oil on the pan before baking it in the oven. There is no way to improve a bad base coating. You've got to scrub it off and start from scratch. The technique that zymurgymaster is pointing you to in reply #2 works great. Even if you don't use flaxseed oil, read the procedure, particularly where she describes wiping off the oil before putting your pan in the oven for the bake off. I've used her method and it works great.
