Pizza oven door stuck. Help!!
« on: May 31, 2013, 06:52:23 PM »
I have a blodgett 981 (fairly ancient) pizza oven for my restaurant. I've had it for about 4 months, and just a few minutes ago, it stopped opening at about 4". Fortunately, the top oven door opens fine so we will still be able to make pizzas tonight, but it will really slow things down as we usually use both ovens. There are no visible obstructions, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have had EXCELLENT help from this website before, so hopefully someone can get me out of another jam. Thank you :)

Update ::
So one of my drivers came in and slammed the door open and it seemed to loosen up a little bit. We can get it open and shut with force, but it still seems like it wants to catch on the left side...Not sure this is a good permanent solution but it will get us through the weekend hopefully!

Have someone tap up and down and press in and out on the side door extenders/retainers as you firmly bounce the door against where it is stopping. Might have to take the covers off at the extenders; I believe there is a slotted track/bracket in there that guides them and one may have loosened and gotten cocked.

I use 2 blodgett 1000 ovens and have had trouble with one of the doors getting stuck.  In my case it was a piece of the sheet metal that the oven bracket slides along.  I tried hammering it flush to no avail and ended up using a dremmel to cut the piece out that was causing the hang up.  My ovens are from the 70's and still work great.   Walter

the bracket can be seen here on the left side where it slides along the sheet metal that covers the door frame.  The bottom oven was the trouble child.

Yeah, that's how we fixed our tvs in the old days; we smacked them until they worked.
Er...you realize that by tvs I mean televisions, right?  :-D

I remember smacking my tv- and, no, that's not a euphemism  :-D

I also remember putting foil on the antenna to try and get a better signal for what was probably less than 8 stations.

My uncle had my cousins and/or I hold the rabbit ears cause we got a better signal if grounded. I don't remember 8 channels tho. Maybe 2 or 3? ??? ?

Well, this is really hard to remember, but there were the 3 major networks, then two local NY stations (WOR, WPIX) and PBS.  It was 1-13 and there were definitely gaps, but not that many gaps.  It might have been 7.  7 or 8.

I can remember our first color TV with electronic tuner/dial....the old man would say..."hey, hey, hey...don't flip that dial so fast, you'll wear it out!".
Yeah...OK Dad..... ::)

I grew up with four stations.  Two of them were Canadian, one was CBS and the other PBS.  The clicker was non existant until I was out of the house--my dad used me as a dial "clicker."  These days I sometimes hide the clicker from the husband in order to avoid channel surfing the whole night.

Scott,

I recall the same stuff.  When my father installed a big TV aerial outside we also had to go outside in any kind of weather to turn the aerial by hand to get better TV reception.  Of course back then you were lucky if you owned a transistor radio and mostly had to listen to vinyl records.   :-D

You want to talk about old, I remember when you could get color TV.....it was a piece of plastic with 3 color segments that you taped over your screen. Anyone remember rotors? It was a devise that turned your TV antenna so you could get better reception.If you couldn't afford one of those, there were antennas you could turn manually. @dhorst, up in Ogdensburg, they had cable TV back in the 60's. Guess in never "caught on" in Canton! :-D
