Operating short handle pizza peel
« on: June 06, 2013, 01:39:17 PM »
When you load your pizza into your oven or pizza stone (any kind) using short handle pizza peel, do you carry your pizza peel / pizza, and load with one or both hands?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

My wood peel with the 18" handle, I always load with one hand.  My elbow hits the end of the handle on the top and my hand grasps the handle about 2/3 of the way down.  I think I just use my elbow to help balance out the weight, which allows me to go one handed onto the stone.  Hope that helps.

Thanks Diana, if you had an 8" handle pizza peel will you be able to use one hand?

8" handle on a 16"x 16" wood peel would be doable one hand for me.  My 16"x32" peel, I have to use two hands.  I have small wrists, so they buckle with the larger peel.

My peel handle is short, 20" (relatively) GI Metal A37RF. I use one hand to launch, my other hand is holding open the top of my 2 Stone.

Bert

I think the shape of the handle plays a part; a flat handle resists torquing while a round handle can add an element of excitement when using one hand.
