My Pizza Sauce
« on: June 09, 2013, 03:30:45 PM »
I have been tweaking this recipe for 2 or 3 years now and I thought I would share.  I'm sure it's not for everybody but i like how it tastes with my pizzas :)

1 - 28oz can Hunts whole peeled plum tomatoes
1 - sweet onion (medium) (diced)
3 - garlic cloves (minced)
3.5 tsp - oregano
3.5 tsp - basil
0.5 tsp - fennel seed (crushed)
0.5 tsp - black pepper
0.5 tsp - kosher salt
1 tbs - brown sugar
2 tbs - honey

sauté onion and garlic in olive oil.  Combine all ingredients in food processor and run until saucy :p  simmer sauce in a covered pan for 20min.  Let cool and it's ready for  :pizza:

It's actually for a "jets" deep dish clone.  Not quite Detroit style, but still tasty  :chef:

This is almost like my son's sauce (age 11).  He added honey but not the brown sugar.  And he did not cook it.  You can see his in action at http://www.pizza-accessories.com/2013/09/pizza-sauce-tomato-paste/  I am going to have him try yours next for a taste testing contest.  We will let you know how we did.  Cheers.

Thank you for sharing your sauce recipe. I am always interested in learning how other people make their sauce. Thanks again.

I was sort of with you until you got to the fennel seeds. I think they have such strong flavor that really contradicts both the acidity and sweetness of pizza. Also, how dense and sweet is the sauce?
Dough, stretch, sauce, cheese; check.
