Hot Ashes!!!
« on: July 09, 2013, 03:01:19 PM »
Hi,

Question, if you wanted to clean out your WFO after using it, where do you dump the hot coals and ashes? Is there an ash can that is rated for high heat?

I got a hot ash can from HD or Lowes for around $12?  Came with a lid as well.  I fill it up with hot coals and shove the lid on and kick the can under the wfo so kids and animals can't touch it by accident.   Once it cools, I strain it and have lump charcoal for the grill.

I put a scoop or two into the grill next to the oven, then put the rest into a metal ash can with a hardware cloth strainer and a tight lid.  Shake the ash to the bottom of the can, the coals turn to charcoal, and I get about 1/2 a 5 gal bucket of charcoal per firing, plus a hot grill.
