Whole Milk Boar's Head Mozzarella
« on: August 02, 2013, 02:25:35 PM »
Wife just called and said she found this at a local store and asked if I wanted to try it. Hell Yeah! I'll try it on some pizza tonight if it doesn't rain.

It's ok, but locally it is always very, very pricey, which I am unwilling to pay. If you like it, scout around and see if it can be bought by the whole block (usually they are 5-6 pounds), that may save you some $$$. I know you have trouble finding Mozzarella in your area, have you searched out any food distributors or restaurant suppliers for possible sources of mozzarella? I buy 5 pound blocks of Sorrento at a restaurant supply store for about $12, price fluctuates with the market. Hope you like the Boar's Head.

It was $7.99/lb so it was  worthwhile trying. Five lbs of Sorrento for $12? You got mob connections, or what? I wouldn't mind waking up some morning with a Boar's Head (loaf) in my bed. Fuhgeddaboudit.

DMC has all sorts of cheese connections.  The man travels NYS on a never ending cheese quest and has made some great discoveries, which he has shared with me along with flour!  :-D

Heh, Craig was kind enough to humor me with a trip to Dairy Maids in Houston when I was there for the Summit.  I also went a bit nuts at Central Market.  And then there was the balsamic asiago, expresso asiago, home smoked cheddar and home smoked fresh mozzarella that I brought with me from Syracuse.  We had quite the spread of cheese at the Summit!  I could live on bread, cheese, wine and veggies. :-D

http://www.houstondairymaids.com/  They have a wonderful selection of cheese!

not on any plan or purpose, but I'm sure that cheese has easily replaced meat as the main source of protein in my diet. I can't remember the last time I ate a steak, but this past weekend I returned home from vacation with at least 10 pounds of assorted cheeses.

Yes, DMC is one cheesy fellow!  And soon will be even cheesier when I drop of some Grande curds to him in about 10 days. :P
