New Sous-Vide For Home Use????
« on: August 12, 2013, 01:18:59 PM »
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/seattlefoodgeek/sansaire-sous-vide-circulator-for-199

The Sansaire was just shown on Serious Eats as a early stage company looking for money to launch their new sous-vide for the home at an affordable $199.00. Looks like a neat contraption but always been leery of outfits that are looking for 'upfront money', or 'buy it now and you will be one of the first to get one when made available' kind of deals. I guess I'll wait till they are REALLY for sale and check them out

I read the Serious Eats article. I'll probably get one this winter.

Right now, I have a $50 programmable slow cooker with a probe thermometer, and use an aquarium bubbler to move the water.

Works like the real thing for under $70.

I've been thinking of getting this unit and a crock pot.

Love the name.

I have the Sous Vide Professional from Poly Science and the VacMaster 210 chamber vac.  They are both a wonderful addition to my cooking.  Perfect steaks, chops, whatever, every time.

Nice home brewery!

I also use my brewery for sous vide. I made up a PID based recirculating (RIMS) water heater for my mash tun for doing stepped mashes, and of course it works perfectly as a sous vide unit as well. Recirculation is done with a March pump, and the copper cylinder on the outside of the mash tun contains the heating element.

Again....a bit more than $199 and not as shiny as yours!

I have a stalled sous vide project as well. I have an electric stainless steel bain-marie that I was going to fit a smaller pump and PID unit to....should really get that going again....

I've been having a wrestling match with myself over getting one of these. Is yours the oil pump or the other? And have you had any issues with it and how long have you had it??

thanks

Its tempting, especially since I don't trust myself to build a unit.  My skills are pretty meager.

We have a SousVide Supreme which we use regularly and are completely happy with.  Doesn't do all that well with pizza though.  :P
