Can I follow a thread temporarily and/or intermittently
« on: August 21, 2013, 12:05:47 PM »
Many times I want to express interest in and/or support for someone's post but do not necessarily want to continue following that post ad infinitum. Is there a means by which I can stop following a particular thread once I've commented/asked questions and no longer want to follow along?

Thanks and sorry if this is a topic previously covered. I did try to search the forum for an answer, honest!!

Bill,

I seem to be missing the "Unnotify" button ??? I checked for its presence on a post that I did not personally start and it was not there either...

I see that I am (appropriately) missing the "Moderate" button. Perhaps the "Unnotify" option is one that is not universally available to members.

Thanks for the input!

You see the "Notify" button? If you press it, it changes to "Unnotify".

Bill and John: I've also wondered if this is possible. Doesn't the "Notify" button cause an email to be sent out when someone posts a reply? What I'd really like to be able to do is to stop seeing threads I'm no longer interested in (but have posted in once upon a time) show up in the "Show new replies to your posts" link.

BTW, I also searched and played around with settings a few times to no avail.

Barry is describing the issue that I am posting about. I just tried the "unnotify" option on a thread that I no longer want to follow so we'll see what happens in my case.

The presence of a "Stop Following this Thread" button is what I was hoping for.

You can also display all threads in which you are receiving notifications and do mass unnotifies: Profile>Notifications. Select the threads/boards you want to stop following and press the "Unnotify" button at the bottom right.

Bill,

Your first suggestion did not accomplish said goal. The thread that I had "unnotified" 10 mins ago just popped up in the list of "Show New Replies to Your Post".

Sorry. I never use that function to "Show New Replies to Your Posts" - just email notifications. Perhaps you should ask Steve about making the desired change.
