If there are any bakeries close to you, I'd suggest giving them a try. Maybe they'd sell you some. I'm surprised that W.Foods doesn't have any.

I was surprised too.  I went to two different ones, asked 3-4 people and no go.

We do have another type of health foods store and I may try that place.

Wait a few months. I usually notice it in our local stores during the holidays.

If your ever up north in FL

Great Harvest Bread Co.
820 Sadler Rd.
Amelia Island FL 32034
(904) 277-4747

Call and ask if they sell it.

I've bought one lb blocks for $2.00 or less. Divide it into 8 pieces with a thin knife (or wire cutter), freeze, or share, seven and keep one in the bottom of your fridge for regular use. It'll keep for a lonf time.

This has not been my experience. I get from 3 days to a week until cut cake yeast starts growing things.

Qarl, unless you have access to a bakery who's willing to sell you a fresh 1 lb. block AND you're willing to either use up the whole thing quickly or be content with throwing some away, my advice would be to stick to IDY.

I think cake yeast does have a slight advantage over IDY, but only when it's fresh. If you let it sit around (in a supermarket or your fridge) or freeze it, the advantage will be lost.

I've kept it for months in my refrigerator, no problem.
I've revived it from months of freezing, and then refrigerated it for months of usage, no problem.
I kept it all shrink wrapped good and tight.

My refrigerator/freezer must be magical.

No go at Whole Foods inside store or behind bakery.  No go at 2 different local grocery store chains.  Even spoke to the bakers at Costco's bakery department.

I FINALLY found a pound of Fleischmann's cake yeast at Restaurant Depot today.  $1.38 for a 1 lb block of it.

Going to make french bread and some pizza dough with it this week!

Woohoo!
