The Thread of Shame.........

 I love posting pictures here of pies that I am proud of and I know others do the same.

But, not everyone one of them turns out great, do they? (at least mine don't).

I will step up and start the "Thread of Shame".

Today's entry - I wanted to learn how to pull a dressed pie onto my perforated peel from the counter, instead of dressing it on the peel.  That was the beginning of the end.  I sort of saved it by making an ugly "calzone."

I have taken my camera to the cook shack almost every time I bake a pie, ( weekly). So many times I never snap a frame. NOW I have reason tooo!

See what happens today!

Our bakery /pizzeria gets crazy very often with often a dozen different recipes/things baking going on.  Here is one of my 20 minute ny style pizzas at 560 degrees.   Walter

I don't see shame in a pizza fail. The only way to avoid pizza fails is to not make pizza. Which is the real shame?

I don't see shame in a pizza fail. The only way to avoid pizza fails is to not make pizza. Which is the real shame?

Well, I was frustrated and a bit ticked, but not really ashamed - good point (Although Thread of Shame is fun).  How about also naming / considering it to be the

 "Thread of Learning (from trying new things, experiments and the continued quest for improvement)" ?

Yes I bet that one will be hard to beat.  I burned a bagel worse than that.  I left it on the deck and thought I had taken them all out.  It was in the oven a couple days stuck in the front corner which is a blind spot in our ovens-should have been wearing my reading glasses :)  I get a good laugh out of these things. My students really are impressed with our serious burns.  Walter

Once I forgot to put the lid on my Vitamix blender. The picture does not show all the sauce that was on my shirt, pants, and even my face and hair. LOL

I think this may qualify for a "shameful" dough.  I used the dough calculator for one 17" dough ball.  Measured everything properly and calculated my starter % based upon the model at my basement temp.  When I reballed yesterday, it looked fine but I just went down there to check on it and looky what I found  :-D. Holy blown out dough, Batman!  I'm still going to use it tonight  >:D

Gee Walter, I'm with Aimless on this one.  Couldn't you hang back on this thread for a while and let it develop?  Members like me with some rather spectacular failures want to be appreciated. ;D  You can always lob a picture like that in a few weeks and take the prize. :o  (Still: Nicely Done!)

Here is what is probably the first pie that I ever made (or at least a very early one and the first one that I took a picture of). This was back in Feb of 2002. I wouldn't advise that anyone eat this, but I can clearly remember thinking it was great.

That was at a point when making a pizza at home seemed like such a mystery and achievement. It still is, but for an entirely different set of reasons. :)

There is an answer for a pizza dough failure. Bread.

I made a dough ball once that simply would not form and hold its shape. It did start me out on my bread baking ventures.

I wish i took a picture of my first pizza stone on bbq grill... first and last attempt.  As soon as the pizza touched the stone, the stone cracked in half and i said eh.... maybe it wont be that bad....   The entire bottom of the pizza was completely charred.  Me and my girlfriend attempted to eat the pizza.  Disaster.  Since then we purchased the Blackstone Pizza Oven, ahhhh success.
