IR Thermometers going on sale today
« on: January 23, 2014, 08:22:50 AM »
Thought I'd share my finding, these are going on sale today at 3PM (PST). http://www.newegg.com/Special/ShellShocker.aspx?cm_sp=ShellShocker-_-03-009-317-_-01232014_4

I've never personally used one although I know the benefits, might interest some people here (I'm looking at you, WFO crew ;D)

I've been wanting an IR thermometer for a long time, and I have no interest in WFOs. I feel like I can adapt fine to new ovens and whatnot, but it would be nice to be able to know things like temperature differences in an unfamiliar oven without having to learn in a way that might end up being the hard way.

Also it just occurred to me how useful an IR thermometer might be in determining hot spots in your oven/stone/steel/etc. especially with an unfamiliar oven.

I bought http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006V4WNYU/?tag=pizzamaking-20 months ago.  It's still working and has had a couple falls onto my tiles floors.

The question is whether these $20 units perform as well (accurately) as the $50+ units

That looks similar to my old IR. It stop working if it got hot, I could n't leave it out side in the summer time. It worked again once it could off.
