Heading to Chicago, decent places to eat?
« on: February 05, 2014, 12:52:20 AM »
Hey guys, long time no post

I'm going to be heading over to the US in July for a short course at MSU. In the past my Chicago style pizzas have been made by reading recipies and guessing, because we really don't do Chicago style here in Australia.

Now I'm going to get to try the real thing!!

But I don't know where to go. Which are the 'must visit' pizza joints in Chicago?

My Pi.
Gino's East.

For Neapolitan style you must check out Spacca Napoli.

If just pizza:

Piece - New Haven style pizza.
Spacca Napoli - Neapolitan, and nearly identical to what you can get in Naples in terms of quality.  (If Jonathan is there, tell him Derrick, the Asian guy partnering with Paulie Gee sent you).
Coalfire - Americanized Neapolitan, but done quite well.
Lou Malnati's - Deep Dish Chicago
Vito and Nicks - Thin crust Chicago sausage pizza

If you have time for more, let me know... the list is long, but these are the key players in Chicago, IMHO.

If you are in the west of Chicago, do not miss eating pizza at excellent pizzeria Paula&Monica in 1518 Chicago Ave. or give an order at tel (312)929-3615. You will be delighted with the excellent  products and impeccable service.

All great suggestions.  I would add Pequods on Clyborn to the list.  Great atmosphere and pizza.
