Cinnamon Swirl Pizza
« on: June 13, 2014, 09:26:54 PM »
I saw a recipe for a Cinnamon Swirl Pizza on facebook posted by Pizza Today. http://www.pizzatoday.com/recipes/cinnamon-swirl-pizza/

I recalled I had some frozen Detroit style dough balls in the freezer that had been there awhile.  I took the 3 dough balls out of the freezer and put them in the fridge.  I modified the recipe some, used butter to grease the pan, added raisins and decided to use an icing topping.  My piping bag broke when I first was applying the icing.  I then spread the icing with a knife.

That Cinnamon Swirl pizza was very light and moist.  My granddaughter, great-granddaughter and I each had a slice.  We thought it was very good.  The icing topping has now harden some more.

Jon,

Thanks!  I did not give those raisins a rum, brandy or bourbon soak.  That is a great idea!  I can imagine a NY style dough or other doughs might work well for a Cinnamon Swirl Pizza.  I baked at about 400 degrees F for about 20 minutes because the ropes I rolled were larger.  I wonder how the Cinnamon Swirl Pizza would work in my deck oven. :-\

Qarl,

I did not use the method for icing in the recipe link below.  What I used for the icing was confectioners sugar, light butter, real vanilla and milk. To make the icing better.  http://www.joyofbaking.com/ConfectionersFrosting.html

Another recipe for the icing somewhat along the lines I used.  http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/vanilla-buttercream-frosting/39107a19-be94-4571-9031-f1fc5bd1d606

I have used the quick way of mixing a basic icing taught to me by my Mother for cakes and cupcakes..  I have learned about how much confectioners sugar, butter, vanilla and milk to add.  I just mix the basic ingredients with a mixer, and if a little more confectioners sugar/or milk is needed I then add a little more.

Probably a cream cheese icing would also be good.

Maybe butter is okay now since “butter is better”.   >:D

Dave,

Thanks!  It tastes just about like a Cinnabon.  It held up well until the next day just sitting out.  When microwaving it becomes better.  My daughter asked me if I would make a Cinnamon Swirl Pizza tomorrow for her to take into work on Monday.  Since I only have one more frozen Detroit style dough I would have to mix more dough.  I have to think about doing that.   :-D

Beautiful! My wife, Cheryl, says it looks better as a cinnamon bun, rather than pizza. Course she is not a pizza head.  :o She does love to eat it tho. :pizza:

Mark

Mark,

If you ever decide to try one let us know what your wife says.  She might be begging you to make a cinnamon swirl “whatever” you call it with pizza dough.  :P  Wait, you mean your wife isn't a pizza head like you?  :o

Mark,

I really don't know.  I like the saying "two heads are better than one."
