Great Value Mozzarella @ Wal-Mart
« on: September 10, 2006, 08:54:38 PM »
You know, I read a post here a while ago from someone who said they thought GV mozz. was really Polly-O in a Wal-Mart wrapper, but I didn't believe it.  I just had my first visit to a Super Wal-Mart and I saw some GV whole-milk mozz., so I bought it.  It is shaped like Polly-O, it feels like Polly-O (softer than the average low-moisture mozz.), it tears in layers like Polly-o, it tastes creamy like Polly-O, AND it melts just like Polly-O.  I've tried more brands of mozzarella cheese than anybody I know (outside of here), and if that ain't Polly-O, then it might as well be.  Yummy!  ;D  And it costs $2.69/lb!!!  I'm pretty particular, and I don't think I can detect a difference.  A side-by-side taste test is all that remains.  I know someone called Polly-O once and they said no, but I now have my doubts...  ???

My wallmart doesn't have the great value cheese, but has poly-o.   Sounds like they might re brand it for certain locations.

I've seen Kraft Poly-o.  Is that the same as Polly-o?  I get my Polly-o at Sam's Club for under $2.50/lb.  I don't have a membership, but even with the non-member charge, it's still only $5.25 for a 2 lb pkg.

Scott --

How did you find out?  Taste test, or did you call someone?

Glutenboy. Sorry for the confusion.  I was responding to the above question, not trying to say that the great value cheese is poly o.

All I am trying to say is that poly-o is made by kraft.

I didn't buy it, but I could swear that when I saw the Kraft cheese, it was spelled "poly-o".  But I know that the cheese that I buy (that is owned by Kraft, as you said, Scott) is spelled "Polly-o".
