I've Been Fark'd
« on: September 17, 2006, 06:23:22 PM »
My site was linked to on Fark.com, which is a site that posts up odd articles and bits of knowledge. So I've gotten 10,000 hits today, which my server is not too happy about since I put all my photos up on one page.

So right now most of the photos on my page won't load.  It should calm down in a day or so as I get pushed down into the history.

I've gotten a lot of nice letters though.

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

I actually want to semi-apologize... it was me who started your page rolling around the high-traffic avenues of the internet.  I check it every few months to see if you've made an update, and I looked on Saturday and saw that you'd finally finished your recipe, so I thought it was worth posting on a non-pizza site.  The original post:

http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/54821

A few hours later, it ended up on CNet, then BoingBoing, then Fark.

I hope this month's bill wasn't astronomical...

It was a bit of a surprise. I'm not even sure how I pay for my bandwidth. I guess I'll find out.  I got about 25,000 hits before I brought it down and then switched it over to some mirrors on SliceNY.com and others. I didn't really expect anything like the reactions and the emails I've gotten. It's been an interesting day though. Very trippy. My buddy found the link in these places:

It's amazing how things get around the net. But by tomorrow it will over. It's already half of what it was this morning.

rxrfrx,

Back in December '05 I was looking for a good crust recipe and found your Metafilter post: http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/26925.  This lead me straight to Jeff's site.  I read Jeff's site several times over.  I then stumbled upon pizzamaking.com.  Four month's later I was sitting in Jeff's kitchen eating some of his now famous pizza.  I left with the Patsy's culture and started on my own path to great pizza.

So, I must thank you for that original Metafilter post back in November '05.  Also, thanks again to Jeff and the pizzamaking.com community.

FYI, search google for "secret to pizza dough" and your original post is #3.

Making Pizza is not cooking, it is Performance Art!

Thanks for the pizza recipe. OK, "recipe" is the wrong word. Manifesto perhaps? I particularly like the tips on dough handling and kneading. Since my earliest bread making experiences were by hand, I'm OK with adding flour "until it's right" rather than needing exact amounts. However, I've just never been able to figure out how to do this in the Kitchen Aid. I'd gotten into a bit of a rut. Between autolyzing and working things while much wetter I think I'll have stuff that's a lot more interestng. (I doubt that I'll mod my range, though.)

Thanks.

FYI: I got 35,000 hits since Saturday. I had to shut it down at one point and eventually had it mirrored over to other sites. It's calmed down a lot since yesterday and will be done by tomorrow. But it was fun.

:-)
