Does anyone have any info on a good digital scale that doesn't cost too much?

Another member recently asked me the same question offline and I gave him the following:

These threads and posts basically describe what you should be looking for in the way of scales. There are many brands and many models that will meet your needs and do a nice job. Some members have gotten some very nice scales with a lot of features at relatively low cost, often at eBay.

Recently, another member also suggested getting an AC/DC converter if is is offered as an option.

I've been very happy with my Polder 933-90.

That one is kind of unusual in that it measures in 1/8-oz increments.

My 2 cents goes with November. I've had mine for about a year and love it, no wishing for other features like with my other scales; and I have several.

I just purchased the KD-7000, as per the recommendation from November.  Had to buy it thru another website "oldwillknottscales.com" and out the door, with shipping and the ac adapter, was $58.04.  Can't wait to try it out.  Hopefully will get it for Friday pizza night.

Wow,  this company that I ordered my KD-7000 is fast.  Ordered it 5 hours ago, and UPS already has there lil hands on it.  Just thought that I should give them the kudus in a forum that people read.  Adam

I saw the recommendations on this thread and searched the net a KD-7000.  I found one for $28.99 plus S&H from In-focus-electronics.  I was very reluctant to order the item since the price was significantly less than offered on most of the links in this thread.  Finally, I said "What the heck!" and ordered. 

I was very pleased with the speed with which the item was shipped and SO FAR I can't find any defects with the item.

I'm wondering if the KD-7000 has been replaced with the KD-7001 and that's the reason for the lower price.  If that's the case, I don't really care if I have a slightly older model number. 

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation of this model.  It appears to have the functions I've been looking for in a scale.

I had read that My Weigh was going to be releasing a new scale to replace the 7000 early this year, but I was not aware that they have yet.  I didn't hear about any spectacular improvements either, just a typical model refresh.  The only place I can find a 7001 is here:

...and they come specialized for weighing birds and postal mail.  At first I thought it was a joke, because it seems to me something like a perch and two clamps could be sold separately for any model scale.  In any case, you got an incredible deal.

It may not be worth the price for some, but My Weigh has a new scale (Uber Deluxe 6000) and while it doesn't offer any new obvious features over the KD-7000, it does have a nice design which incorporates a practical electrostatic button interface.  This would be the ultimate scale for a messy food environment since the scale is made from a solid stainless steel body and buttons that don't require physical depression.

I'm sure this would be much more attractive to professionals, but I couldn't help but post about this just because of its relevance.  The main reason for using a scale in the first place is consistency, so some might want to carry that consistency all the way to the final product.  Mettler Toledo is a major player in precision balances, so this is certainly a great scale to go with if you're just that obsessive about accuracy.  It generally costs between $500 and $600.

Another popular scale among professionals is the Avery Berkel 6115, at http://www.averyberkelusa.com/literature/6115_l.pdf. That model goes for around $400.

Seems very accurate and consistant.
Accurate to .1 gram or .01 oz.
When I first got the scale, I weighed a few items just for reference in the future.

A friend just bought one two weeks ago, and my reference items weighed excatly the same, to the .1 gram.

Long term quality is the only unknown.
