Big Shout Out for Cafe Reyes in Point Reyes California
« on: February 20, 2010, 07:14:59 PM »
Stopped by for lunch after a drive to the seashore. Awesome pie !! My wife and I shared a margherita pizza which was primo. Caputo 00 flour, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil. First class atmosphere, great pizza, and unbelievable value. Pizza, ice tea, draft Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA, and a Florentine cookie for dessert - $18.80. What more can I say? This restaurant is a MUST VISIT !!

The owner of Cafe Reyes, Robert, is an occasional poster on the forum under the user name aenaes1 (see, for example, Reply 15 at http://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php/topic,10121.msg88622.html#msg88622). I first came across Robert when he posted several years ago (in 2006) at the PMQ Think Tank. At the time, he was looking to replicate Jeff Varasano's Patsy's clone pizza, using a deck oven that he was considering using to offer pizzas in addition to other items then sold at Cafe Reyes. I notified Jeff of the post, and Jeff soon offered up his opinions and advice. Evelyne Slomon also got involved, as did I. The PMQTT thread, which can be seen at, http://thinktank.pmq.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=190&hilit=#p757, captivated the membership to the point where the thread became one of the most viewed threads on the PMQTT forum. The thread is interesting in that it shows how Robert started his journey from a pizza novitiate to a pizzaiolo.
