Spinguni Recipes Help Please

Hello,

My family is Italian and we are from the Detroit area. My Dad wants me to make a pizza called, Spinguni (I think this is how you spell it). Supposedly it is made with bread dough instead of pizza dough.

I have had it before and it is more so a sauce and bread dish with little or no cheese. It looks exactly like a pizza but is made a little differently.

Please help if you can. I have googled this so many times and I get absolutely nothing.

Are you possibly thinking of "sfinguini" or "sfincioni"? See, for example, http://italianfood.about.com/od/fritterssnacks/a/blr0607.htm. You might check all three pages of the article.

You might also check out the book Pizza Any Way You Slice It, by Charles & Michell Scicolone, where the sfincioni is discussed, along with a recipe or two.

One of our members, Evelyn Slomon, also has a recipe for sfincioni, which apparently is sometimes spelled sfincuini, in her book The Pizza Book. Another member, pizzanapoletana, spells the term sfinciuni, I believe.

That should give you enough spellings to use with search engines.
