My 12 year old KA mixer was leaking oil and making some noise so I decided it was time to open her up and investigate. It's the 5 quart heavy duty model K5SS with the bowl lift lever.
Taking it apart was pretty straight forward and all I noticed was the nylon gear showed some wear so it's getting replaced before it goes TU. I ordered a gear, gasket and a set of brushes. The brushes were about half worn so I picked up a set just in case. I'm going to reuse the old grease as they put enough grease in there for 10 mixers.
Here are some links to the PDF parts and repair manuals/parts suppliers and some pictures of the gear assembly on the mixer. I would have included more pictures but the manuals and web sites below cover it real well.
