Where are you getting these tiles?

I never thought it would be so hard to find a stinkin tile.

I checked at 4 places this week for any unglazed tile that is at least half an inch thick. Found absolutely nothing. I did see the Saltillo tiles, but they were all sealed with some kind of chemical. I Ended up getting some 1/4 inch "earth guaged slate" from Home Depot. Stupid thing is popping on the sides and peeling apart. Looked like it was a complete stone when I bought it, but now its apparent that there are layers and it must have been glued together or something.

I've run out of ideas and don't know where to get one of these things.

BTW The pizza I made was from the pizza inn recipe on this site. I loved it, thanks for sharing.

My home depot has 6" tiles that are unglazed.  They were like $.30 each. I bought 4 of them to make a 12" square tile.  The pizza doesn't seep through the seams between the tiles, and so far they've worked great. I would assume they're pretty standard.  I believe they may be called quarry tiles...they look like this

Yup, those are the ones! Never again will I part with $12+ for a pizza stone

For what it's worth, my local Home Depot store told me "NOT" to use their tiles because they had looked into the chemical manufacturing process and found their tiles were not to be used with food.
