Over the past 20 years I have tried to make pizza sauce which had the taste I was looking for.
I have utilized the most expensive tomatoes products available - and never happy
Today I made a sauce from a local provider "Gio Russo" made in Youngstown, Ohio - inexpensive stuff - paste and sauce less than a $1 for both.
(1) 6 oz can of paste, one 10 oz can of sauce, one 10 once water, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp Italian mix spice, 1/4 tsp red pepper (ground with motor and pestal) - 1/2 tsp onion flakes (ground mortar & pestal) and approximately 1/2 tsp oregano also ground by motor and pestal. All fine ground spices put in the paste, sauce and water mix. Also put in approx. 1/4 tsp of lemon juice and stirred
Used immediately (about 1/2 hour wait) until dough was put on pan and baked - about the best I've had - sprinkled with small diced garlic cloves and oven @ 550* - after pie came out put on pepperoni and Grande Romano cheese - too good
