Grande cheese in manageable quantities, Wilkes-Barre PA
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:21:53 AM »
Finally, a place I can buy Grande mozz. in reasonable quantities.  Until now the only sources I found were by the case only.

Maine Source, just off the Cross Valley expressway, has part-skim and whole milk mozz (also provolone) by the loaf in their cooler.  Even better, they were willing to cut a loaf of the whole milk in half for me.  At $3.35 a lb, I got 3.5 lbs. for just under $12.

I also saw 5 lb. bags of Grande shredded (not grated) parmesan.  Has anyone tried this?  Is it good?

Geeeeee I just went to Bova about 60 mins south from you.
Got 30 lbs by the case at $93 east coast blend Dice(frezze 1/2 of it}
Price about 6 months ago was $83 but with a $10 increase it is still worth it....

By my math, $93 for 30 lbs. is $3.10 per lb.  Not that much difference vs. $3.35, and I didn't have to buy 30 lbs.

I don't know what I'd do with 30 lbs. of cheese!

I live between Allentown and Phila.  I enjoy going to Bova Foods..great selection of cheeses, olive oil, pizza pans, HG flour, sauce and anything related to Pizzeria sales.  See Frank..what a nice guy.

I think those of us in North and South Eastern Pa should thank our Italian lucky stars to have 2 locations to grab Grande!..many members here have to either drive for miles or pay outrageous shipping charges to get this stuff.  $3.00/lb is a bargain.

I don't know why many say 30 lbs of chesse is alot.
Each bag can last 2-3 months if you freeze the rest......
At what a bag cost,I give one or 2 bags away to friends since the price is cheap.
Too me if you make One Pizza a week and 1 meatball hero and 2 Pepperonni Roll each week,a bag will only last about a month give or take a week.
But I feel the East Coast Blend Dice is a tad more then if you have to dice it yourself.....

Yeah..many say it doesn't keep it's flavor and melt quality..but I've frozen Grande and never could tell a diff.  We make a lot of pies on Friday night..hey and I have 5 kids so we fly through the cheese !

I agree, East Coast Grande is absolutely the best..and $3.07 a pound it beats anything from the supermarket.

Ha Ha Ha........
I frezze my Grande last time and could not tell a diffence....
I feel if I have to buy Grande by a case at a time, its still worth it......
I know if I order a meatball hero and wanted extra chesse, they would charge
$1.00 for a tad more. But I am sure its not Grande chesse.
Yep tonite I am making a peperonni Roll before I go to sleep.
Maybe I will add extra chesse and charge myself $1.00 for it lol........
Its not the money but its the chesse...........JT
