I'm in  OC too. I've tried about 7 places since I moved here a year ago. I would be intererested in your favorite places and maybe checking out some more.

DKM

I've lived here all my life (Brea, Newport Beach, and now Costa Mesa)
and ive been a dough head since i could walk so i've tried a lot of places.

There are really only 3 places that i REALLY like. The rest are all edible but not even worthy of listing.

#1 Haus of Pizza
http://www.onlineguide.com/restaurants/dorias.html
Hole in the wall joint in Costa Mesa... awesome food. Good pastas too.

#2 Nick's Pizza
http://www.nickspizzapasta.com/
This stuff is good... actually its a toss up for me between this and the Haus of Pizza... both can switch between #1 and #2 on any given night :D

#3 Al's New York Cafe
http://www.alsnewyorkcafe.com/
After going to New York in December on a pizza quest... this is the only place ive ever had in so cal that i've had that should be called New York Style. Holy crap the pizza rules here... super thin and crispy, The NYC special is the BOMB Pepperoni, Sausage, Onion, Garlic, Double Cheese
I've been going here since i was 13 years old. I'm now 27. It's gone through a crapload of names... Ray's, Mo's, NYC Cafe, now Al's New York. Al is cool.. if you live in So Cal or are here check this place out....

I think i'll start posting some pics of these joints :D

If you make it as far north as Hermosa Beach, you should try Italy's Little Kitchen, although I generally go to the one on Manchester in Westchester.  Their Calzone is especially good.  I'll make a note of the O.C. locations, however, as I pass through on occasion, especially Newport Beach when I go to Crystal Cove (Laguna Beach).

I am new to the chitchat and happy to see some suggestions for OC pizza spots.  I live in San Diego and have been searching for a 'real' thin crust, crispy, 8 to 10" margarita.  Bronx Pizza in Hillcrest and Manhattan Giant Pizza in Encinitas are great for the NYC style, but  that is a different story (and different meal all together).

Will definitely check the recommended spots in tha OC.  In the meantime... any suggestions for your neighbor in the South would be greatly appreciated.

If you like a thin cracker crust, you should try BG Emilio's Pizza Parlor. 23364 El Toro Rd Lake Forest. I go there often for the lunch special which is a small pizza with 2 toppings, salad and a soad for $5.75. It's not that filling so it's a good lunch if you don't want to eat and be weighed down all day. I always want more though haha! I guess I should go on Tuesday night because they have all you can eat for $6. Anyway, it's good eats if you like cracker crust. If you don't ...stay away because you will be disappointed. Just a matter of like or dislike.

The "RSM" in my name is Rancho Santa Margarita...so I'm in!
Best pizza in OC that I know of is a long ways away from me..Tony's Little Italy in Placentia. Great thin crust, but best is their Chicago-style stuffed crust that rivals some of the best in Chicago.  E-Mail for me is bobhayden@prodigy.net .

google and google maps is my friend. I figured it out, I'll be checking it out next week. I'm a big fan of chicago style thin crust, so this should be good. Do you happen to know if they sell by the slice?

Google can be your best friend, but in this case it may lead you astray. After 20+ years at Kraemer and Bastanchury, they moved last fall about a mile away to Placentia and Bastanchury. Full address is 1808 N Placentia Ave., Unit B. Phone is 714-528-2159.

Not sure if they sell by the slice but they may at lunch time. The new place doesn't have the Chicago "Old School" charm of the old one, but you can tell they are a lot more serious about their pizza than they are about their decor and other things. If you get the thin crust, ask to make sure it's extra thin. My only complaint about the last time i had the thin crust was that it wasn't thin enough and was a tad tough. No complaints with the stuffed crust, though...it's the real deal.
