How to read Escalon date codes.
« on: May 03, 2007, 01:28:35 PM »
There was another thread here about a confusing Julian date system for Escalon labels which I can no longer find.

But for those of you interested, you guys can forget about the julian calender stuff.  I just talked to the people at Escalon about the can of 4-in-1's I purchased recently.  Turns out the can was from 2003 and my reputable grocer had no idea they were selling old stock.  Escalon has contacted my grocer to discuss the old stock :)

Anyway, as of 5/01/05 they no longer use julian dates.  The first number in the second string is now the year packed.

So for can code FRES3 6H18J;

FRES=Product (6-in-1)
3= production line (line 3)
6= Year (2006)
H= Month (H is 8th letter of alphebet/August is 8th month)
18= Day (18th of August)
J= Time (She did not tell me how to decipher this but it might be 10am since J is 10th letter of alphebet).

Hope this clears things up for you all.

The above information is inaccurate at this time.  I had recently inquired about the codes on the cans of Escalon products that I had received in the last couple of months (Code was "FRES 3 Q6BG20 W 02:33)" and their response was:

"The code you provided Q68G20, tells us that this product was produced at out Escalon facility (Q6) . The number '8' represents the year of production (2008); G equals the month - for example A = January; B = February etc., and the next two numbers give us the day of the month in which the product was canned.   The next four numbers are the time of day that the product was made.  In this example, the product was made on July 20th, 2008 at 2:30 AM.
"It is recommended that this product be used within 2 years of that date for the best flavor and freshness, therefore, you have until July of 2010 to use this product."
