Pizza pictures from New York & Chicago
« on: January 21, 2005, 08:18:47 AM »
For those of us that don't live in New York or Chicago it sure would be nice to have a close-up  picture of a slice of each town's famious pizzas.
Next time anyone goes to one of these places take your camera if you could.

Randy,

This site has a lot of pics of pizza from NY pizza places (in fact, there's one of a pizza from a coal oven place called "Sac's" on the front page this month): http://www.sliceny.com/

Also, I posted some pics of slices from my favourite "street" NY pizza place, Ben's Pizza, at some point on this board.  Do a search for Ben's Pizza and it should reveal the appropriate thread :)

Sac's Pizza

I can definitely vouch for Sac's in Astoria Queens. If you go, try the sicillian too.

I used to live on Roosevelt Island which has a bridge onto Astoria and that's when I discovered Sac's.  Sometimes if I'm coming from LaGuardia Airport I stop at Sac's before I get on the road to go whereever in NYC I need to be.

They actually had 2 coal ovens at John's.. 1 in each wing of the restaraunt.

Both pizza's were excellent. I liked Lombardi's the best but forgot my camera that day  :'(

sliceny.com has some GREAT articles with pictures.  Here's one article (a review of the new DeMarco's pizzeria) that was of particular interest to me, since it a) is based on DiFara's, and b) is located a block away from my old apartment in NYC! (and just a couple of blocks from the old classic Joe's Pizza).  It has a number of fantastic pics of the slices and the pies, including a comparison right off the bat between a DeMarcos slice and a DiFaras slice:

Enjoy! :)
