Can someone give me an easy to follow pizza dough `
« on: February 22, 2005, 11:24:25 AM »
Can someone give me a really good recipe, easy to follow for pizza dough?  I have a peel and a stone.  I have a bread maker and I'm considering getting a kitchen aide mixer.  I would like a tried and true recipe that's not too technical if anyone has one. Thanks.

Here is a very basic NY style dough recipe:

1 pound bread flour
9.5 fluid ounces warm water
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. active dry yeast

Mix and knead until smooth and silky. Let rise for 3 hours at room temperature. Punch down, knead, and allow to rise again for 1 hour. Stretch by hand, place on pizza peel, sauce, top, and bake at 500 degrees F. until golden brown.

And, it's quite delicious!

Steve,

That's a good basic recipe.  Might I suggest putting it on your recipes page for this site as a "Basic Beginner Pizza Dough" or something similar?  The reason I suggest that is because many people coming to this site might just be looking for a basic dough like this rather than a specific NY-style or Chicago deep dish pizza.
