Quick question on the spice blend for the sauce. Hopefully this hasn't been asked and answered already; this thread is massive!

Should I grind up the fennel seeds? The seeds I have are pretty large, so I'm wondering if I should mortar and pestle 'em.

I crush a few that way or between my fingers but not overly zealous about it at all.
