While I was at Cataldi Fresh Market in Toronto today stocking up on cheese and some other items I thought I should probably check out their selection of pepperoni which for some reason I've never bothered to look at. Found me some cup and char pepperoni made by Venetian Meats, another product that I've looked for but cant source up north. They are based out of Hamilton Ontario, one of our members spoke very highly of the quality of their pepperoni as well as their other meat products.

IDK why I only grabbed 2 packages, I guess sometimes that little hamster in my head falls off of his wheel. I'll post back in a few days with my opinion and comparison to my usual go to.

defintely keep me in the loop on this one... Big Red Meats (in niagara) sells the real deal cup and char from buffalo from battistoni.

not the greatest price, but not wildly expensive either.

Will do.

Thanks for the heads up on Big Red Meats I have friend that way that comes back home often enough that I'm sure will do me a solid. If not, looks like you're going to have to make a trip up north to my place when you get back into the country!  :o ;D

I find it so hard to find sources for products such as that, internet searches give very little results, most of my sources have been found via the forum. I have no problem jumping through some hoops to aquire the products, but if ya just cant find it....you know.

My local indie grocery store up here ordered me a 10lb bag of uncut pepperoni sticks from them. I think it was labelled as a regular pepperoni - nothing about cup and char.

Used my friend's slicer to cut them and I noticed little squirts of pink fat shooting out of the slices. Maybe it was getting too warm?

Seemed a lot greasier than Ezzo's.

I wanted to support them because they're Canadian, but went with Ezzo's cause I can get it easier and I liked it better in a blind taste test.

Interested in how this version bakes and tastes.

(Unbaked) pepperoni for snacking and pepperoni that's on pizza are two different things altogether.  Hormel Rosa Grande is horrible raw and superlative on pizza.
Things have never been more like today than they are right now.

Actually they had sticks there as well, I had a package in my hands then changed my mind.

kori, another FYI.... the battistoni from Big Red comes vacuum packed. so your friend can legit grab it at any time and toss it in the fridge.
they likely buy massive containers full and portion them. they come, from what ive seen, in smaller bags, a few hundred grams at a time. maybe if you call they can portion up a bigger one (I believe my mom did this)

like I said... not cheap. but for the quality and the like, not overly expensive either.

Tested out the new pepperoni on a couple of pizzas yesterday evening and was quite pleased (not just with the pepperoni  ;)).

It's a slightly milder pepperoni then what I usually use and that's not necessarily a complaint. My go to has been Marc Angelo for a while now

https://marcangelofoods.com/en-ca/products/imported-italian-deli/deli-pepperoni/pepperoni-pizza-cut

its a pretty strong pepperoni flavour, the main reason I like it is because of its consistency which I would refer to it as a dried cured pepperoni, the Venetian Meats brand has that same consistency.

Everything else available to me like Ziggy's, Piller's, Roma, Sila...all has the consiteny/texture of wieners, better suited for subs then pizza IMO but I guess some like that.

My only negative which is really of no importance is the size of the slices, pretty tiny not much bigger then a toonie say 30mm, maybe that's normal size for cup & char idk I've never purchased it before.

No complaints at all if it was readily available to me I would make it a regular purchase, if I'd have know the results I would have picked up a couple more bags for sure.

cup and char, once baked, are typically quarter or loonie sized. at least all the ones ive ever had in buffalo are, as are the battistoni you can get at big red

This interesting topic gives me an idea for a word/description we began to see overused (IMO) on menus at better restaurants between (roughly) 2000 and the onset of the pandemic:

"...simple savory pizza sauce made with the finest tomatoes we can source, ... cheeses, and
a medley of pepperoni."
I would be all over that!
