Good point. AFAIK the 28oz can has been discontinued - haven't seen one in years. Not too long ago, one could mail-order the 28oz cans directly from Escalon - the demise of that program probably another contributor to loss of style.
nanometric,

Using your often recommended search approach at Google, I found this thread:

Curious what the reasoning is, since the 6in1's are so cheap on Amazon.  Is it acidicty, sweetness, salt levels.  Pray tell.

I've never paid more than $5 and change for a #10 of Alta Cucina and that was pandemic prices.  The last case I bought was less than that.

They are close to $8 now.

Stanislaus prices have definately went up. For some reason, my supplier still has a decent price on the Valorosos. I am paying about $7.50 per can Canadian. Which is about $5.50USD. 7/11 used to be about $6 Canadian pre Covid, now they are almost $9.

Scott, have you tried this Pizzaiolo version of Stanislaus?  https://www.webstaurantstore.com/stanislaus-10-can-pizzaiolo-sauce/99936327.html

Love them.   My first choice as far as what is available near me.   I pay over $10 now for the big can.  Versatile tomato.   Fairly inexpensive, easy to prep.  Just blend and add a little sugar and water if need be.

I have.  As far as "prepared" sauces go it's definitely great, but for some reason I prefer to add my own garlic and use in a day or two max.  I feel like the flavor changes as it ages.

Which Stanislaus do you buy, and do you get it online somewhere?  No local grocers carry that brand.

scott r

They are not sold in grocery stores, you would have to find a wholesale purveyor.  You may have cash and carry options near you.

Two of the more popular Stanislaus products:

7/11 ground (I use these frequently - get them from various food service places such as Restaurant Depot and Greco & Sons).

Alta Cucina whole peeled (have yet to try these)

6+lbs shipped seems like an okay price. Can't expect them to send it to you for nothing.

I haven't bought any tomatoes on Amazon for quite a few years, and WOW have things changed.

Last time I bought a case of Sclafani Crushed Tomatoes was January 15, 2016: 28 Ounce (Pack of 12), I paid $30.13 delivered (Prime). That same case today is $94.95 on sale from $99.95. I get that it's been 9 years, but 315% increase?
