Walking down my supermarket aisle, I see lots of cans labeled "San Marzano Style Tomatoes".  What does "style" mean in this context?  I'd think that they'd simply be called "San Marzano Tomatoes".  Or would that mean that they're actually *from* San Marzano, as opposed to the same tomatoes, but grown someplace else?  I'd be hesitant to buy "cheddar style cheese".  If someone wanted to sell an "antique style desk", I'd expect it to look old, but actually be made of particle board and from China.

It doesn't mean anything ** except - it means it is NOT DOP San Marzano Tomatoes **. Unless the words have a defined meaning by some governing body (FDA, EU, etc.), they are simply marketing.

You can grow your own from seed practically anywhere but they may not be equal to those grown in San Marzano, Italy.
