I'm using a 3" LED motion puck light under the head of the mixer. Super easy and very useful. Happy mixing!IMG_4732.jpg

Was it made in China?   ;D

Do you mix in the dark?

Looks cool, although I can't see a need for it for myself.

Heck yeah their made in China and hence throwaways  :D

So work lights are put on equipment to illuminate the work not because the operator is working in the dark. Sunmix has a light built in to their units. I'm going to do the same and hardwire a light

Nice upgrade!  The only problem that I see with it is that it won't help you get the puck light parts out of your dough if it falls down. :)

Here u go Muddy. Hardwired one led in for now. I will add a switch somewhere near the other controls. It's amazing how the first thing I do with my new mixer is drill and cut it up!  :D  Next is IR thermometer sensor install with Bluetooth readout on my phone. Fun! This mod will be more involved.IMG_4791.jpgIMG_4791.jpg IMG_4789.jpgIMG_4790.jpg IMG_4791.jpg

Very nice.

A bowl light was one of those things that I didn't think I needed. However, now that I've used it, I find it helpful.

I know what you mean about cutting up something new. I often joke that my warranties only last as long as it takes me to find a screwdriver. :)

Looking forward to seeing the temp sensor install...

I'm still unclear when/why such a light is needed?

It's really just for covert night time mixing sessions. Sometimes it's necessary! Also the LED light improves the taste. Sunmix and a few others have this feature so why not.  Bling  factor mainly. Pimp my mixer type thing. Paint job next?

I prefer to use thermal vision for my night mixing ops - kills two birds with one stone.

yep, amazing how it does that to all foods, right?

Your puck light idea motivated me to add one to a KA.

Why? For me it's a dark kitchen and old eyes. I don't see this as being any different than having a work light on a stationary power tool (or on the impact driver in the pictures above). Any flavor benefits are strictly a bonus. :)

Red LED work better for flavor development.

Very nice addition to the planetary!  :) Done with this project. I have it so the lights come on as soon as the mixer is plugged in. The lights have a plug that comes out of the back of the mixer and connects to a power strip attached to the bottom of  the cart. I dont want to add a switch just yet. More drilling!  :-\IMG_4796.jpg

What would be really cool would be to put a variable strobe control on the lights so you could make it look like the mixer wasn't mixing when it actually is.

I made it up (as I'm sure you guessed), but as I read your comment, it sounded plausible, so I checked and there might actually be some truth to it.

Effects of light wavelength and intensity on the production of ethanol by Saccharomyces cerevisiae in batch cultures
https://scijournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/jctb.2148

QuoteThe light wavelength and its intensity significantly affected cell growth and ethanol formation of S. cerevisiae. Red LED light (630 nm) stimulated cell growth but slightly inhibited ethanol formation. In contrast, blue LED light (470 nm) significantly inhibited cell growth but stimulated ethanol formation.

And you could use it to measure RPM if you know the flash rate!!
