Hi everyone,

I'm currently deciding between the Famag Grilletta IM-5 and the Spiralmac Royal Queen 5. Both seem to be the right size for my needs, and I've heard great things about them. Since this is a significant investment, I'd really appreciate input from anyone who has hands-on experience with either of these mixers.

I'm particularly interested in:
1. Performance and reliability over time: How well do they hold up with regular use?
2. Durability and common issues: Are there any recurring problems or weaknesses?
3. Availability of parts and service: Is it easy to find replacement parts or get repairs when needed?

I've gone through some previous discussions here, and while the information is helpful, I couldn't find a clear consensus.

Any insights, recommendations, or advice would mean a lot.

I have a Famag IM5.  Had it for around 3 years.  No issues, but only use it about once a month.  No need for service.  The Kid will be along soon to tell you Famag is unreliable.  Lots of happy Famag owners here.  Spiralmac seems good too, but not as much traction here.  Sunmix might be another to consider.

Thank you for your response! Glad to hear you've been happy with the Famag IM-5. I had a couple of quick questions, if you don't mind.

What are your thoughts on the higher RPM version or I guess the HH versus the standard one? have you had any issues with the breaker bar? That seems to come up a lot in reviews.

I'm leaning toward the Famag overall—it feels more established, and having parts and servicing available is definitely a plus. Unfortunately, neither is in stock right now, so it looks like I'll be waiting a bit.

Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Breaker bar was an issue because it wasn't close enough to the spiral - that's been corrected.

I have the HH, but I don't think it's needed (I think the highest I've gone is 5 or 6 even with near 80% hydration bread dough).

Heard, thanks again for the info, any regrets about the size you chose, sizing up/sizing down?

No.  My biggest batches are less than 2 kg.

Was in the same boat as you....

Ultimately went Spiralmac because it seems better designed for use, isnt as prone to repair issues, has a wider range of speed than the Famag standard and HH versions, 110 volts and they seem to handle around the same or more flour wise for around the same money.

Somethings to factor in amongst other considerations and for me the choice was easy.
