Does flour spoil?

How many weeks can sealed flour be stored safely.  Does moving it from a flour to a plastic/glass container improve its shelf life?

stamina888,

If the flour you have in mind is whole wheat flour, it can go rancid if held at room temperature for long. It is better to store it in the refrigerator or freezer.

The temperature where you store the flour is also important. Where I live in Texas, I cannot use large bags of flour without eggs in the flour hatching. And I don't have the refrigerator or freezer space to store any amount of flour greater than a few small bags. I have had even small bags of flour infested with bugs that got into the bags from the outside (I could see pinholes in the bags). I discussed these matters in greater detail in Reply 16 at:

I would say that plastic or glass or metal containers are generally suitable for storage purposes.
