Pizza Screen Is Sticky After Seasoning
« on: September 21, 2021, 06:35:35 AM »
I seasoned my 16 inch screen yesterday following the instructions I found here. I used a light coating of vegetable oil and baked at 425 for 20 minutes but the screen feels tacky. Is this normal?
I started out with nothing. I have most of it left.

I don't know if it's "normal," but I don't think it will affect performance. You may have simply used a bit too much oil.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks Craig.

I would try baking it again without adding any more oil.

Seasoning screens is the one area I ever disagreed with Tom (Dough Doctor), RIP. I never seasoned one and never had a problem. They continue to get better as they are used, but I never came close to having one stick or seep through the screen.

I did the same a few years back, put it back in the oven it'll harden up. I raised my temp to 485f with no issues.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I baked it for a bit longer and it did in fact harden. I think it was as Craig suggested that I may have just over applied the oil.
