I usually keep my SD starter in my fridge, take out every 2 weeks, pour off alcohol, mix, pour out half, and feed with 1/2 cup flour and 1/2 cup water... The last few days, I have been trying to get some activity out of it, so I have been feeding it every day and leaving out of the refrigerator, but I am only getting very little rise after a few hours, is the starter dead? Any recommendations on how to give it new life?

Get a clean container, take 20 grams of starter, mix with 20 grams of warm bottled, until it fourths a bit. Then add 20 grams of unbleached flour and stir it all up very well.

Don't feed it again until it looks active again. Should be bubbly and filled with air pockets so that when you stir it again it has the consistency of an overcooked marshmallow.

I think the hooch should be mixed in and not discarded, and then move on to what David Esq instructs.  The hooch is very much a part of the culture. Correct me if I am wrong.

Hooch just means you have been underfeeding the starter. Stir it in or pour it out is what I read. But, I pour it out myself. There is no benefit that I have read, in doing one or the other. Best not to have it at all.
