Grrrr, I can't take it anymore.....
« on: March 29, 2006, 01:47:20 PM »
Maybe you guys will be able to help me out. I've tried everything!

I'm looking for a wooden pizza peel, 14-16 inches in diameter, for under 20 bucks(including S&H). I've looked at all kinds of sites, but I just can't find one for that price. I found one for $14.99 at Amazon, but after their insane S&H fee, it comes round to 25 bucks.

So does anyone know a site where I can orider a 14-16 inch in diameter pizza peel for 20 bucks or under? It'd be an extra bonus if they took money orders. :P But I'll take what I can get.

PizzaNoob,

I think you will find that peels with round blades are generally harder to find and are usually quite a bit more expensive than those with rectangular blades. Also, once you start getting to the larger sizes, like 16" and above, the prices start to increase and you may not hit your $20 benchmark.

If you are willing to accept a wood peel with a rectangular blade, you may want to check out this website for Instawares: http://www.instawares.com/wood+peel.0.3.1-0-0.htm?sessionID=13218A92241812DBAA830130. If you can find a peel that interests you, you can use the checkout feature and use the calculator provided to estimate shipping charges. Instawares also accepts money orders (look under Payment Methods in the right navigation column). If there are any doubts after going through the exercise, there is an 800 number for you to call. You may also want to check to see if there would be a sales tax due on any purchase you may make. You might also discover that the amount of shipping charges may allow you some slack to buy other items without increasing the total shipping charge.

You will note a wooden peel that is 14" x 16" x 24" for only $9.  A 24" handle may be too long for your purposes but it would be easy enough to cut it back. Or you can get the peel (e.g., 14" x 15") with the 9" handle. Or any other that suits your fancy.

Another possibility is to see if there is a restaurant supply store near you that sells pizza supplies. If you can find the size peel you want, you will save shipping charges although there may be a sales tax involved depending on where you live.

Good luck.

Peter

Awesome! Thank you Pete. Also, is this the peel you're talking about?

http://www.instawares.com/JR6124.JR6124.0.7.htm?sessionID=13218A92241812DBAA830130

If so, do you think it's a good buy? For the price it seems like an awesome buy! But, there's one thing that that makes me a little iffy....:

14x16x24" Wood Pizza Peel
Product code 6124
Dimensions:
Width 16 Inch
Length 24 Inch
Thickness 0.394 Inch
Laminated With Toxic Free Glue, Blade 14"x16
Material: Rubberwood

I'm not sure of what "Rubberwood" is. Is that what most peels are made of?

Again, thanks for your help and the great site Pete.

PizzaNoob,

The item you cited is the one I was referring to. As you will see from http://www.oakplus.com/rubberwood.htm, rubberwood is actually wood. The price for the item is about $3-$5 less than the prices I can recall for a comparable size wood peel.

My best advice is to buy the largest peel you think you will need. For example, if you think you will ever want to make a 16" pizza using a peel, I would get a peel that can handle that size, even if you have to pay a few dollars more. The best you can do with the 14" x 16" is 14". Of course, you can always get a 16" pizza screen for the 16" size.

Whether you get the item you referenced or another, be sure to check the total charges, even if it means calling Instawares. I noticed that when I entered a zip code in the calculator just to get an estimate of the shipping charges, the amount posted was shown next to a "handling" charge. I have ordered before from Instawares and I don't ever recall a handling charge.

Here's another source, http://www.abestkitchen.com/store/pizzapeels.html. I purchased one of their 16 inch wooden peels which is priced at $14.45 plus s&h.

I think Amazon has free shipping on $25+ orders (I know I was happy about that when I ordered my cast iron cookware!) and if you need "fillers" to get to $25, here's a coool website to check out: http://www.slickfillers.net/
