Pizza Stone/Unglazed Quarry Tile in Arizona?

Hello all,

I'm new to the boards, but I've become obsessed with pizza over the past few weeks, and I found this board, and I fear my obsession has led me deeper down the rabbit hole.

I am located in Phoenix, AZ - and I just had a really old pizza stone crack on me, so I'm in the market for either a new stone, or an unglazed quarry stone.  I've looked at a few of the local tile places in town, even called a few of the masonry and brick places, but as has been mentioned on the boards before, most people don't know what I'm talking about when I ask.

Has anyone here had any luck with finding any unglazed quarry stones in here the phoenix metro area?  I'll keep looking, but thought I'd see if anyone else had any experience here.

I'm not too far away (SoCal) and I'm having the same luck as you...I'm trying to get more tiles to build a stone oven inside my kitchen oven (a la Pete-zza has done).

I went into a Lowe's and they had no idea, but looking myself, I turned up nothing.

I then went into a specialty tile store and they had a sample of the ones we've seen on this site.  However, they said most boxes come in 10 or 11 sq ft coverage and cost about $35.  At that price, I'd probably buy another made-for-pizza stone at a kitchen store.

I'll keep looking and let you know if I find anything useful in this corner o' the country...

I think I may have to resort to just getting a nice pizza stone, then I'll know 100% that I have something safe and something that won't damage my oven or add any unnecessary chemicals to my food.

I got mine at Lowe's a few years back. A box of 8" tiles was like $15 or so.
