ceramic fiber board burn off????
« on: April 16, 2021, 08:00:15 PM »
When I purchased my ceramic fiber board, I was told I would need to fire it to off-gas toxic chemicals.  Do you have advice on how hot this needs to be and for how long?  Multiple fires or just one?  Feedback much appreciated!

That's a new one to me. What brand of board?

Also how hot? Some of these boards are good to temps the will never see insulating an oven.

Looks like it is made by a company called CeramSource in New Jersey. Not sure where you bought it but I'd give them a call. If you are putting a brick oven on top of the board, you will never see half of the board's heat capacity.

Data sheet says the boards properties return after drying if it gets wet. That's a nice feature if there is ever a leak.

Hi Jon,  I agree, I have 4.5" of perlcrete under the 1" of ceramic fiber board so a small component of the total floor insulation.  To be honest, I used the ceramic fiber board over the perlcrete was too create a smooth surface for the floor bricks.

I did a similar design on ny build. 3.5" of perlcrete under 2 inches of insblock 19 board. Its only good to 1900 though.  :)
