I want to have room for 10 250g ball for proofing and the plastic boxes for the purpose seem stupid expensive.  What are people using?

I’m using these Baker’s Mark dough trays for my RT poolish doughs. They’re 14.99 ea now, they were like $11 ea when I bought them a year or two back.

The doughmate ones on Amazon are seriously overpriced

Well, look at it this way (excluding tax)...
Two of those trays is $30  plus shipping. About $45-$50.
Two doughmates from amazon is $57, free shipping, and comes with a lid and a scraper.
Only $10-$15 difference and you get a lid and scraper.

Anytime you look at Amazon items that have "free shipping" you have to translate that.
"free shipping" translates to "no additional shipping charges"
The build the shipping cost into the items price.

Sometimes you have to look at something and tell yourself, "well, I'll never have to buy it again".

I made wood dough boxes. They hold 10 balls. The cost <$10 each to make, but that probably higher now as lumber is way up.

Personally, I think they are way better than plastic because the wood absorbs a bit of moisture out of the bottom of the ball which lets me make pizza with no bench flour.

That made think about some pull-out drawers I made for kitchen cabinets using dovetail joints.
I have three sitting on a shelf in the garage.

Dumb newb question here, but what do people use to cover these things?  Towel?  Saran wrap? Plywood?  Nothing?

The boxes are designed to stack. The box on top is the cover for the box below and so on. They may make a cover for the top box in the stack, but most pizzerias just use an empty box.

If you already have plastic dough boxes you can just cut sheets of poplar wood like this:

Sure free shipping always to be accounted yeah, but the doughmate trays are also half the size of those Bakers Mark ones. Not too many home cooks will want those big dough trays though so can understand. Have both these products for pizza events
