Rome - June
« on: March 09, 2023, 09:12:34 AM »
Any recommendation for pizza and non pizza in Rome? I haven't been there since 2009.  Even though I will be in Naples at the end of my trip, I may try the 50 kalo in Rome since I already have other places I want to hit up in Naples.

I will be there in August, too bad we aren't there at the same time.  I plan on 50 kalo as well.

For pizza I have also been hearing good things about Seu and will probably hit Stefano Callegari's Sbanco.

Gelato at Verde Pistacchio is legendary.

Restaurant Felice a Testaccio and nearby Salumeria Volpetti are favorites of Danny Myer.

Trecca Cucina Di Mercato is supposedly Bonci's favorite restaurant

Roscioli, L’Osteria di Monteverde, Colline Emiliane, Trattoria da Danilo, La Pergola are all on my list as well.

I will be gaining more than a few lbs I'm sure!

I'll be in Rome June 24-29.  I'll look for the places you posted Scott.  From what I've read the small restaurants have better food.  The big places are tourist traps and expensive.  We want street food

So I arrived in Rome yesterday and already hit up Roscioli for pizza. Just happened to be around the corner from my Airbnb.

Last night had excellent dinner at Il Duca in Trastevere.

Emma’s is also directly across the street from me and seems to be highly recommended.

Dinner tomorrow at the Rome location of 50 Kalo

Our attempt to get into 50 Kalo failed. Our dinner party grew to 13 people. Too large of a group to handle. They don’t take reservations other than weekends. Backup plan was Pizzium, which I later found out is a chain. Pizza was very good.

Our last night in Rome and we were able to get a reservation at Emma. The place was a lot bigger than I expected.

Pizza was very good. I didn’t think I would like really thin Roman pizza, but I did.

Pasta was also excellent.  I highly recommend going there.

Next up is a few days in southern Italy in the Cilento region, then Naples.

I’ll create a new thread in the Reviews sections for pizza I encounter along the way.

Will also be visiting a few local bufala dairy farms in the Paestum area.

Sounds like a few great days! In your first photo, Is that a Porchetta on the table behind the man serving pizza?
Both pasta pictures you posted look delicious.

Antica Salumeria is just steps aways from the Pantheon.  I’ll never forget that place and the lunch we had there.
Things have never been more like today than they are right now.
