Best container to store flour?
« on: June 13, 2021, 12:28:11 PM »
How to store flour? my local food service store sells 50lb bags of flour but obviously that will last me a long while. Best way to store it? Can I just buy a cpl of 5lb buckets with lid from Lowes or home depot? other options?

I use 2 food safe buckets that I ordered from Lowes, also ordered gamma lids that make it very easy.

Below is the thread I started on this topic previously, there were a few suggestions.

A big 'ole draw strap trash bag works just fine and I've been storing my flour in them for 20+ years now.  Take your 50lb bag of flour, lift it up and set it back down in a big draw strap trash bag.  Then open the bag of flour and use as you see fit but each time after use fold the paper bag of flour over and then cinch up the trash bag and tie it off for the next use.  I generally go through 50lbs of flour a year baking from home and I've never had a problem with this method but I do keep the flour inside my conditioned and bug-free living environment.  I can't comment on what may happen of you try to store bulk flour in a garage or somewhere that isn't a conditioned and bug free environment.
