Looking for good uncured pork only pepperoni
« on: December 26, 2020, 02:34:49 PM »
Hi all - I have been trying different pepperonis out there, to see what I like best.
Problem is, I prefer uncured (nitrite free), and pork only (no beef), so that really limits my choices.
The ones I have tried are:
Hormel Natural pepperoni: Decent, but not super flavorful and very greasy.
Whole Foods Deli pepperoni: Better flavor than Hormel, but it's huge which isn't ideal for 11-12" pizzas.
Whole foods brand thick cut pepperoni: Still need to try.
Vermont smoke and cure: Still need to try.

Would love to find a cup and char version but all seem to either contain sodium nitrite or are pork and beef.
Anyone have any recommendations?

I don't know if this qualifies, but I had gotten a small stick with a brand name of Dalbello or something to that effect.  The flavor seemed somewhere between pepperoni and salami with a more coarse texture.  The difference in flavor and texture make me wonder if the ingredients were different than typical pepperoni.  But I don't know much more about it.  I got it at an Italian market in Columbus OH.
I said to my little one, "come here so I can change you".
He said "change only comes from within".  :-/

Haven't tried this one but it fits what you want. Kind of pricy.

Vermont has been a recent favorite. Although the last two that I got seemed different. They were less spiced than the prior ones I had purchased, also seemed fatter and shorter sticks. Zoe's is great, but it does have beef - sorry. Niman ranch is very good but pre sliced, big diameter. If my wife gets that (which she likes best) I just slice them in quarters to fit smaller pizzas.
